Zombie Character Design for Horizon Z

As the Lead Artist at Barque 42, I’m responsible for bringing our game's characters to life, and I’m excited to showcase our first fully conceptualized and developed zombie character.

The creative process started with a strong focus on balancing stylized design with the eerie and unsettling aesthetic we envisioned for Horizon Z. This zombie model captures the post-apocalyptic atmosphere while keeping the gameplay engaging and visually striking.

Conceptualization & Integration From initial sketches to the final 3D model, the character design involved several iterations to ensure it fit within our game world. Each element—from the decayed, bony structure to the haunting eyes—was crafted with the goal of creating a character that evokes both fear and curiosity.

Once the design was finalized, I integrated the model into Unreal Engine, ensuring smooth animations, effective performance, and that it interacted well with the game’s environment. The character not only serves as a visual centerpiece but also plays a vital role in the player’s journey through endless waves of zombie attacks.

This character is just the beginning of what we’re building in Horizon Z. Stay tuned for more reveals as we continue developing the game
